The Silvanus Trust is working through partnerships to regenerate the woodlands in the South West for economic, social and environmental benefits.
Growing trees and using timber is increasingly recognised as one of the most environmentally sustainable uses of land. Yet the UK imports the majority of its timber needs whilst a large proportion of England's woodlands are not actively managed.
The Silvanus Trust aims to improve this situation.
We work with communities and businesses to increase the potential of woodland to support greater rural economic activity by marketing local materials, increasing the use of timber, and promoting wood as a replacement for fossil fuels and as a sustainable material.
How do we do this?
We provide support for those with an interest in or working in wood and woodlands.
We support the South West wood industry to promote a sustainable woodland economy.
We influence policy concerning sustainable and viable woodlands.
We undertake research and promote best practice.
